How to use ammonia in the household
Very often in the pursuit of expensive household cleaners, we have no idea that a variety of proven tools are always near us. Such a useful thing as a 10% ammonia solution is suitable for all occasions. Ammonium chloride has no equal in its usefulness and versatility of application. So, here are several tips on using it for the house cleaning.
For washing windows and mirrors
Prepare a mixture of 1 tablespoon ammonia to 1 liter of water. Pour it into a spray bottle for water, sprinkle on the glass and rub with a soft paper or newspaper. It also helps to remove traces of flies on the windows. We need to take one part of ammonia and 10 parts of water.
For cleaning iron soleplate
To wash the dirty iron soleplate take 1 part of ammonia and 1 part of vinegar. Moisten a soft cloth in the solution and wipe the iron.
For cleaning carpets and upholstered furniture
Take 3 tablespoons of ammonia and pour into 1 liter of water. Moisten a sponge in the mixture and wipe the carpets. This will refresh their color.
For cleaning suede stuff
You will need 1 part of ammonia and 4 parts of water. An ordinary cotton swab is suitable for a neat cleaning. Moisten it with a solution and change when dirty. Then wipe the thing with cotton wool moistened with water and vinegar in a ratio of 1 teaspoon per 1 liter of water, and make it dry.
You can also clean suede shoes with a solution of ammonium chloride. Take 1 tablespoon of ammonia per liter of water. Using a conventional brush for suede, abundantly soaked in this solution, wipe shoes. After this procedure, the surface should be wiped with a rubber suede brush.
For washing clothes
You will need: 1 tablespoon of ammonia, 2 tablespoons of 3% hydrogen peroxide, a bucket of hot water (60-70 degrees). Fill your washed laundry with a solution so that it is completely covered. Leave for 15-20 minutes. Thereafter, rinse the clothes 2 times in running water. Your things will look much whiter and fresher.
For cleaning equipment in the kitchen
Ammonia is also often used as a degreaser. You can apply it for cleaning the dirty stains and grease on your stove, tiles, countertops and other surfaces in the kitchen. To do this, wipe the surfaces with undiluted ammonia, leave for a while, and then thoroughly wipe with dish detergent and rinse with water.
To get rid of ants
Take 1 liter of water and 100 ml of ammonia. Wash your kitchen furniture with this solution. Specific odor disappears quickly, and ants won’t appear in your house for a long time.
For cleaning silver jewelry
Pour 3 tablespoons of ammonia into a glass of warm water, and put a silver chain, rings or other jewelry. Leave it at least for 10 minutes. Or you can rub the silver decorations with a soft cloth dampened with ammonia. Then rinse it with clean water, and enjoy the shining silver which looks like new.
